How MasteryLoop works day to day — generation limits, "unpack further" expansions, referrals, and review scheduling.
Cliff Notes and Deep Study each have their own separate free allowance — using one doesn't use up the other.
Cliff Notes gives you the quick gist of a subject: what it's about and why it matters, with no comprehension checks. You get 5 free Cliff Notes generations.
Deep Study is the full experience: real comprehension checks and a final teach-back, built for actually mastering something rather than skimming it. You get 3 free Deep Study generations.
Every curriculum you build gets its own 2 free "unpack further" expansions. Using both on one curriculum doesn't affect any other — a curriculum about Roman history and one on a completely different subject each start with their own fresh pair.
No. These aren't subscription-style limits that refresh on a schedule — once you've used your free generations or expansions, they don't come back on their own. There's no monthly reset.
Not right now — the app doesn't show a running counter like "2 of 3 used" anywhere ahead of time. You'll find out when you actually try to generate or expand something and get a message telling you the free allowance is used up. That's expected behavior, not a bug.
Nothing bad — you get two tries on each concept. If it's still not clicking after that, you can skip ahead and come back to it later. MasteryLoop isn't trying to fail you; the checks exist so you don't move on thinking you understood something you didn't.
Your objective isn't just a label — it's what actually shapes the curriculum MasteryLoop builds for you. The same subject can turn into very different learning experiences depending on what you're trying to do with it. "I want to explain this to a coworker in under 2 minutes" builds something short and high-level. "I need to actually pass a test on this" builds something deeper, with harder comprehension checks and less room to coast. "I just want the big themes for a book club discussion" builds something conversational, not exam-grade. Be specific here — the more real your objective, the better MasteryLoop can match the depth and difficulty to what you actually need. A vague objective gets a generic curriculum. A concrete one gets a curriculum built for your actual goal. Note: even with the same subject and the same objective, two curricula generated separately won't be word-for-word identical — MasteryLoop builds fresh each time rather than serving a cached version.
If someone you refer signs up using your link and completes a full generation, you earn one additional free generation (up to 10 lifetime). To find your referral link, look for the "Referral" pill near the top of the page — click it to see your personal link and copy it.
MasteryLoop uses SM-2, the same spaced-repetition algorithm behind tools like Anki. Each time you're tested on a concept, it's scored 0-5; scoring it well pushes the next review further out, missing it brings the review back sooner.

Most AI tutoring tools run $15–20/month. Ours is $9.99/month — without cutting the comprehension checks, the "why" questions, or the fact-checking that actually make it work. Founding members lock in $6.99/month for as long as they stay subscribed, even if the standard price rises later. See plans →
